Walking, Cycling, Horse Riding and Golf
Lochaber is not known as the "Outdoor Capital of the United Kingdom" for nothing. In an area which encompasses Ben Nevis, Glencoe and a spectacular coastline, the range of activities available is remarkable. In addition to the comprehensive facilities around Fortwilliam, 10 miles away, within a few miles of Springwell, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy:
- Superb walks, for example the Waterfall, An Drochaid and Wades Road walks at Inchree, 2 miles away - www.forestry.gov.uk/scotland
- Long distance walking on the northern section of the West Highland Way from Kinlochleven to Fortwilliam which lies only a few miles away
- Cycling and mountain biking tracks of 3 and 5 miles at the Forestry Commission woods at Glenachulish, 3 miles distant. (Mountain bike hire - www.lochaberwatersports.co.uk)
- Road cycling from Ballachulish to Kinlochleven and back by Glencoe village, a round trip of about 20 miles.
- Horse riding at Lettershuna Riding Centre, Appin 12 miles
- Golf at the Glenachulish 9 hole course, 3 miles, (photo) or on the Fortwilliam 18 hole course.
