ORONSAY AWARDED 4 STARS
After a major renovation over recent months Oronsay Cottage is now fully prepared and ready for visitors, and now has 4 bedrooms, sleeping 8. The internal layout has been changed to create a large living / dining room with archway into the kitchen, and a new double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and shower has been created in the former dining room. Improvements also include full redecoration, new carpet and curtains in the living room, new 4 piece suite and some new beds and bedroom furniture. In addition the house is now all electric with heaters in every room. There is also a new decking veranda to the front to make the most of the exceptional view. All the houses have been fully redecorated this year with necessary floorcovering and some furniture replacements. Rome wasn’t built in a day and we have plenty of ideas for further future upgrades but, now with a year of experience of what you, our visitors, appreciate, we have been pleased to continue to improve on what Springwell has to offer. With all these improvements it was very pleasing to be awarded 4 stars for Oronsay at the recent annual VisitScotland grading inspection. We therefore now have two 4 star houses, Colonsay and Oronsay, and four 3 star, Croft, Shuna, Kerrera, and Lismore.
GREEN TOURISM BUSINESS SCHEME
Springwell has now joined the GTBS as a provisional member, subject to an advisory inspection over the next few months. As our regulars know well, Springwell is an exceptional place from an environmental and wildlife point of view and we do aim to set high environmental standards in all aspects of the management of the site. We plan to help our visitors to enjoy the site by producing an illustrative map interpreting the flora and fauna of the area as well as some of the historical features of interest. We also ask for our visitors’ cooperation in minimising power usage during their visit and assisting in managing their domestic waste. We can all do our little bit to contribute to sustainable management of the environment and reduce our impact on climate change.
BOOKINGS COMING IN THICK AND FAST
While the recession is on everybody’s minds there seems to be an increase in interest in holidays at home in the UK, particularly with high foreign exchange rates. This is shown by a general increase this year in self catering bookings and I am pleased to say that this includes Springwell with many weeks in the early part of the Spring and Summer now nearly full and a good level of bookings through the summer. However we still have vacancies and, as usual, November and early December look like being fairly quiet.
25% SPECIAL WINTER DISCOUNT
I am pleased to be able to offer a special discount of 25% on our list rates for
any of you who have visited Springwell in either 2008 or 2009. This will apply to
any weeks or short breaks of 2 nights or more between 17th October and 12th December.

an enjoyable summer and, if you’re coming to Springwell we very much look forward
